So I've noticed a default state that artists slide into with comics when the comic should have ended 20+ pages ago. Draw a page that looks almost identical to the last one -> one of the fat characters burp as a desperate last resort to make it hot. What is happening to these FA artists that is making them do shit like this? Do they not have the fetish themselves anymore? We have to make everything boring for both the reader and the artist? Whip up a couple new characters to fatten up. Change their hair color, change one word in the premise and boom you have a hot new scenario. That's all it takes.

Hell even most artists such as actual mangakas have 3 to 4 assistants to make the art, salt is just 1 guy. For example, somebody such as Joekie3wl has an art style that's cartoony and simple, easy to work with and to produce comics and animations with, but Salt? that guy's whole stick is designed for singular one-shots, that's it. Not claiming one trick pony, but more so using the fork for the purpose of the spoon.

Many JP artists have opportunities to sell their work at yearly and bi-yearly conventions (something neither Europeans nor Americans really have). Comiket and Comitia are the two big ones, but Nikuket is the explicitly size kink-related one; I've always wanted to go. Since 2024, OneHaunt has been curating these massive, A4-sized doujinshi collections which contain 70+ contributing artists with 1-2pg one-shots each. You would never see a nearly 300pg tome filled to fucking the brim with original fat fetish comic art being sold here stateside, and it frustrates me to no end.

It's just the nature of it. Comic IPs tend to source from entirely different teams of people at once. Spiderman #37 might be a whole different set of people from #38. Mangas do that too but to a lesser extent, and even the ones that stick to a single team tend to take a good while for things to release. I've watched this slow transformation since like 2008 and it drives me insane. 90% of us are good with a sequence or a B&A. That's how it was back then, and the way so many people are screaming for comics to move faster says that its the same now.

A lot of oldhat FA artists have been around since the mid-late 2000s and early 2010s, which was the golden age of weekly, biweekly, even tri-weekly webcomics. As a sub-variant of the medium, production was (and still is) tantamount to a treadmill. A big reason why that format died out with the indie NSFW crowd (aside from it being impossible to monetize with SEO ad revenue) is because many artists fell into the trap where you could just tell they had virtually no planning beyond next week's page, and inevitably experienced burnout. This particular format living on through subscription-based platforms like Patreon is absolutely a problem, but that doesn't mean artists should abandon comics altogether. >You can fill patreons with normal ass art We're drowning in softcore pin-ups every day and you're seriously asking for more? lol >>320740 Belt is an interesting case because he started out wanting to do infinite scroll, webtoon-style comics (bad, lazy; higher risk of scope creep) but then overtime shifted to more standard 6x9 page layouts. I'd say his work has gotten much more readable since then (not to mention easier to jerk off to imo). He's one of the only artists mentioned here who does multi-page batch releases, too, which is a huge plus. I wish other artists did the same; they shouldn't feel compelled to provide constant updates or whatever.
